Jill Garity

garityA native Virginian, Jill Garity, earned a B.A. from the University of Miami and pursued a business career for many years while experimenting with painting. In 2006 the urge to become a serious artist brought her to the VanderZee School, drawn by Rob Vanderzee’s hauntingly beautiful landscapes.Jill has been strongly influenced by the American Tonalist movement, but feels that painting should not be confined by slavish devotion to one style. Expressing the emotion of a rural landscape might elicit a tranquil palette or a more colorful and fanciful one. “That is why we love nature so much……..we find in it what we bring to it at the moment.”

Jill exhibits regularly at juried shows, and her work can be seen at the Burwell-Morgan Mill in Millwood, the Aldie Mill in Aldie, and at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg.
